I've only rarely seen snow at all during winter, much less at Christmas time (despite the many songs about it). But we finally got snow! It started snowing yesterday afternoon through the evening, and it has lasted through Christmas morning.

As I was driving along in mah home town about 20 years ago, I happened to glance down and notice that there was a GIANT CRAB-SHAPED SPIDER on my leg.

I swerved to the right and jumped OUT of the car with it still on and possibly not in park, beating at my leg and screaming hysterically.

Fortunately, there just so happened to be a gas station right there, but if there hadn't been, this might have been me:

America is what it is due to our Constitution. It is the basis of all of our freedoms. Why does O'Reilly hate freedom?

I betcha THESE protesters weren't harassed, harangued, or hunted down by the police. Protests (even stupid ones by racists) are protected speech. No one (and that includes police) has the right to make "on-the-spot determinations" about the legality of protest. Read the Bill of Rights (reference the very first amendment).

By the way, protesters (even stupid racist ones) aren't "the bad guy." They are using their Constitutionally-protected right to speak out (even if it's racist).

Reflections on Octoberfest

It's that time of year again in WoW ... time to complete the Brewfest series of quests. While pondering the exact nature

of a wolpertinger and the varieties of brew available during this world event, it triggered a memory I had regarding Octoberfest.

When I was in high school, I auditioned for the Ft. Worth Youth Orchestra. For some reason, the director got us a gig at Octoberfest, where drunken adults were going to weave around from booth to booth and start arguments on the merits of one beer over another. Yes, THAT Octoberfest.

So we went down to the Convention Center in downtown Ft. Worth and set up on our stage. The very first thing we played ... Pizzicato Polka. What is pizzicato, you might ask? Pizzicato is when stringed instruments pluck their strings instead of bow across them. It is very short, staccato, and not very loud.

So the drunks couldn't hear us very well AT ALL. That didn't stop them from shouting in inebriated exuberance, though. Yes, good times.
